Yes tea can reduce your blood pressure!  A new study has explained the anti hypertensive (blood pressure lowering) properties in green and black tea.

As I am a great lover of tea, I think a cIndigestion refluxup of tea is pretty much the solution to everything, I love this research! You can blame that on my Scottish/Irish/Welsh heritage.

A new study from the University of California, Irvine shows that compounds in both green and black tea relax blood vessels by activating ion channel proteins in the blood vessel wall. The discovery helps to explain the blood pressure lowering properties of tea.

Research results revealed that two flavonoid compounds found in tea activate a specific type of ion channel protein  to relax blood vessels.

Of course, tea also contains some caffeine, so depending on how caffeine affects your body, you may need to be aware of how many cups you consume. Rooibos tea contains flavonoids and no caffeine. It was not part of this study, however I believe it would still be a good alternative if you are sensitive to caffeine.

I’m off to put the kettle on…….
